Underfloor Heating Liquid Screed for Homes & Businesses

If you're investing in underfloor heating, whether it's for your home, a bungalow renovation, or a commercial space, one thing's for sure—it needs the right screed to go with it. That's where liquid screed comes in. It's fast, efficient, and gives you a perfectly level base that works brilliantly with your heating system.

We work with homeowners, builders, and business owners all across the West Midlands, supplying and laying liquid screed floors that are built to last and made to perform. If you want warm, even floors that feel amazing underfoot and save energy over time, this is the way to go.

Let's break it all down—what liquid screed is, why it's perfect for underfloor heating, and how we make sure every job is done properly, from start to finish.

What Is Liquid Screed?

Liquid screed, also known as flow screed or self-levelling screed, is a modern alternative to traditional sand and cement floor screeds. It's made from a mix of fine aggregates and either anhydrite (calcium sulphate) or cement, which flows smoothly across the floor to form a flat, seamless surface.

Unlike traditional screed that has to be hand-laid and levelled, liquid screed is pumped into place and levels itself out—meaning faster application, less labour, and a better finish.

Why Liquid Screed is Ideal for Underfloor Heating

If you're having underfloor heating (UFH) installed, liquid screed is hands down the best way to go. Here's why:

Full Coverage Around Pipes

Because it flows so easily, liquid screed completely surrounds your underfloor heating pipes. That means no air gaps, which is key to getting even heat distribution and preventing cold spots.

Better Heat Transfer

Liquid screed has a much higher thermal conductivity than sand and cement. Simply put, it moves heat from your pipes to your floors faster and more efficiently. So your system doesn't have to work as hard—saving you money in the long run.

Less Depth Needed

You can lay liquid screed in thinner layers (usually around 50mm) compared to traditional screeds (which often need 75mm+). Less depth means faster heat-up times and a more responsive system overall.

Quick to Apply, Fast to Dry

We can usually screed an average-sized floor in just a few hours, with minimal mess and disruption. Drying times depend on the type of screed used, but we'll always guide you on when it's safe to walk on and when you can start flooring.

Perfect for Homes, Extensions & Commercial Projects

Liquid screed isn't just for big building sites—it's ideal for just about any project:

New build homes & extensions
Bungalows and renovations
Kitchens, bathrooms, conservatories
Offices, salons, shops & showrooms
Apartments & communal areas

If you're based in Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, or anywhere across the West Midlands, we've got the tools and the team to help.

The Liquid Screed Process – What to Expect

We've made the whole process as smooth as the screed itself. Here's how it works from start to finish:

1

Free Site Visit & Advice

First things first—we'll pop round to take a look at your subfloor and your underfloor heating setup. We'll check levels, insulation, pipework, and moisture conditions to make sure you're ready for screed. If anything needs doing before the pour, we'll let you know straight away.

2

Prep Work

Before we start pouring, we make sure everything's prepped and perfect. That includes installing edge insulation and expansion joints, taping around pipes and fixtures, sealing the surface to stop leaks, and double-checking depth, fall, and pipe positioning. Good prep is key to a successful pour—and we don't skip a step.

3

Screed Delivery & Pumping

The screed arrives ready-mixed in a specialist truck and is pumped straight into your property. No wheelbarrows, no heavy lifting. It flows out quickly and evenly, covering the whole area in no time.

4

Levelling & Finishing

Once the screed is down, we use a tool called a dappling bar to remove any air bubbles and ensure a consistent finish. It levels itself naturally, but we make sure it's spot-on.

5

Drying & Aftercare

Depending on the type of screed, your floor will usually be ready for light foot traffic in 24–48 hours. Full drying takes longer, especially if you're installing final floor coverings like tiles, laminate or carpet. We'll give you full aftercare guidance and drying timelines—and if you're unsure about moisture levels, we can help with testing too.

Types of Liquid Screed Available

There are a few different options depending on your project. Don't worry—we'll recommend the right one for your needs:

Anhydrite Screed (Calcium Sulphate)

  • Excellent for UFH
  • Minimal shrinkage
  • Large pours possible in one go
  • Needs longer to dry before tiling

Cement-Based Liquid Screed

  • Dries faster
  • Better for wet areas (kitchens, bathrooms)
  • Suitable for fast-track builds
  • Slightly more expensive
